This is then succulent I take made it several times. I melt the beans first, so add the other ingredients. I apply my slow cooker instead of the oven to finish off the recipe. This is my go to recipe for Boston Broiled Beans!

So elementary, notwithstanding tasty! My family of 7 gobbled information technology up. I fabricated a couple of changes, omitted the bay leaf (but because I was out), and added 1T of Worcestershire. I then proceeded to make this in a slow cooker. I rinsed the beans then let them soak over night. Then, simply drained, added roughly 6 cups h2o, and added all the ingredients. I put the boring cooker on loftier for about 7 or eight hours. (until beans are tender). Simple!!

I made a couple alterations. One was accidental. I accidentally cooked the beans completely before baking for ane 60 minutes. I doubled the recipe. I used salt pork instead of bacon (diced and fried.) It was fabulous!

Not Boston beans like I'1000 used to. The flavor was not bad, but the consistency was off. I increased the recipe by fifty%, to 9 servings, just it was a TON of beans. I served it at a party with about xx or and then people but I was left with more than half of it. I usually dear Chef John'south recipes, just alas, nosotros can't be on the same page all the time.

[from 5/27/14: Great. I cooked the beans in the pressure cooker first for about 20 minutes. I also precooked the bacon. Like shooting fish in a barrel and cheap. ] Update: I dearest this recipe! I've fabricated it several times at present. I used Rancho Gordo's yellow eye beans, which don't need soaking. I offset the beans on the stovetop, omitting the baking soda. I also don't add table salt or molasses until the beans are starting to get tender. I broil the beans for the first hour and a half, then add the molasses and salt. After the final half 60 minutes of baking the beans uncovered, I put the pot back on the stovetop to simmer away any extra liquid while I put a pan of cornbread in the oven. So practiced! This time I used diced ham instead of bacon.

Wow. Not sure I can type and shovel these in my rima oris at the same time but Wow! This is but the recipe I was looking for. I didn't make whatsoever changes to the recipe, but I did cook the beans for 45 minutes longer (likewise juicy) and and then did the thirty min at 350 with the lid off, as the recipe states. For those who want these beans less sweetness, keep the molasses as is but just add a TBLE of brown sugar instead of a one/4 cup. My family loves this recipe! A keeper!

Substituted maple syrup for the molasses. Fantabulous flavor. I'll make this one often. Dainty served warm for breakfast with sunny side up eggs on top.

I didn't like these, unfortunately. I'thou from New England, and grew upwardly eating homemade baked beans. The flavour was good, but not what I remember. These were perfectly fine beans, simply a bear upon mealy, but I prefer beans with tomato, Worcestershire sauce, more pronounced molasses and mustard flavors. My mom always taught me to cook beans with a pinch of baking soda and a bay leaf, then those made me smile. As I said, these were good, but just not the Boston baked beans that are served in Boston.

Gave this recipe a delicious twist. Cooked it as a "one-pot" meal and substituted twice smoked pork chops, v of them, for the salary/common salt pork. Delete whatever added salt, as there was enough in the chops. Completely delicious! Serve chops and beans together.

Beans and sauce came out fantastic! Did a double batch for a club banquet and they were a hit. Glad I reserved a portion for myself before I put them out - they were gone in minutes! I will definitely be doing these again. Chef John, you're the all-time!

Actually delicious, I used Splenda instead of brown carbohydrate because of dietary issues with some friends. Used more molasses and replaced dry mustard with dijon.

Cannot accurately rate via the stars as I didn't have a dutch oven to transfer to. I transferred to crock pot instead and beans didn't finish past the time the residual of the meal was ready. Apparently, I'll be trying this over again!!!

I've made these twice. I've plant I only take to cover with liquid once, then cook them covered on 350 degrees for 2hrs, stirring in one case. Then broil uncovered for 30mins. I only had light chocolate-brown saccharide, then I'll utilize dark next time. Best made one day in accelerate so the flavors blend.

Every time I look over his recipes, I realize we cook much the aforementioned way and his recipes always become over well at my table. Kudos Chef John!

Fabricated it for dinner party. Everyone loved it! Didn't want to estrus up the house while the Air-conditioning was running overtime, so cooked it in a crock pot on low for 4 hours, and so finished information technology in a 350 oven as the recipe states. Cheated and used canned navy beans - (4) sixteen oz cans, reserving the liquid. Afterward mixing the remainder of the ingredients, poured in enough reserved liquid to cover the beans. Makes about 6 cups. I've made this recipe several times now. I'chiliad not really sure what value the compression of baking soda is, but I add it anyway. (If you lot've run out of it though, I don't recall y'all'll miss it.) I've baked them as per the directions, and have also wearisome-cooked them on Low for six-8 hours. Either way, they're delicious. They besides freeze well. Update: this latest time, I substituted sliced-up breakfast sausage for the salary, and likewise borrowed from a South African recipe and added a tsp of curry pulverization. Likewise delish.

This recipe was a good one but I did a couple of substitutions. Instead of brownish carbohydrate I added maple syrup and also 1-1 1/2 tsp Chili powder and instead of bacon I apply smoked pork hocks. I make them in my slow cooker on slow and (call me crazy) but i do them over ii days (xx hours total) switching out one cooked pork hock subsequently 10 hours and putting in another for the other 10. The meat is stripped and put in the fridge from the first ane to shred into the final product. I also poach eggs to put on height - serve with a salad and it's a complete meal! So expert!!

Excellent - had to cook an additional hour (live at 5000 feet). Did initial cooking until browning step; let sit until dinner. Cooked xxx minutes at 350 for final cooking.

I might accept messed up in doubling the recipe, but the sauce was a bit thin despite a expert twelve hours in the crockpot. the taste was spot on though. I'm cooking down the liquid overnight; they'll be better tomorrow. I followed the recipe exactly with no additions, substitutions or deletions. The manner of heat differed; no oven on today equally it'south hot and muggy here most Boston. - most Boston and full o' beans. A scrap disappointed. Made it exactly equally written. It was ok. Definitely missing something. Since I'thousand not a fan of ketchup etc I was really hoping it would exist better.

I've made this several times. The beginning time I followed the recipe to the tee and the feedback was that they were too sweet. The next fourth dimension I substituted maple syrup for dark-brown sugar and still seemed too sweet. The last few times I've eliminated the brown sugar birthday and instead of catsup I use Heinz Chili Sauce. This adds a little "bite" to it. also have used bits of salt pork instead of bacon because that's what my mother used. I think these get better after a mean solar day or so and a couple of re-heats. Next time I'yard going to attempt information technology in the slow cooker merely and so I don't take to watch it.

For some reason this didn't seem 5 star. Peradventure I'm too used to canned baked beans and bbq flavor and not used plenty to the earthy, natural, bean taste. I did like that it didn't use ketchup or bbq sauce. I used the crockpot for Step 3 since I didn't accept a dutch oven. My first time making baked beans. Non bad. They all got eaten! Thanks.
